Those Activities In India: The U.S. Agency for International Development and the National Science Foundation agreed to collaborate with India's National Council for Science Education. The purpose of the project is to coordinate those activities in India designed to improve education in the physical and life sciences, mathematics, engineering, and polytechnics. Considerable time and effort will be needed to formulate and administer the program.
The Punjab is one of the principal granaries of India. With 5 per cent of the food-grain acreage of India, it produces 4,880,000 tons, or over seven per cent of India's output. Her wheat production of 1,721,000 tons, comprising 22 per cent of the all-India figure, is second only to that of the United Provinces. Cotton and sugar are the major cash crops, accounting for 892,000 acres and 392,000 acres respectively. With 5 per cent of the total cotton acreage in India, the Punjab produces approximately 600,000 bales per year, or 14 per cent of the all-India output. Her sugar production is 440,000 tons per year, or 9.5 per cent of India's total production.
