Technological Activities:

Technological Activities Because of the waste and congestion created by urbanization in a technological activities culture, concern had increased swiftly since the mid-1940s. The current urban crisis was no less a challenge to conservation than were rural fields, streams, forests, and mines, for this crisis, too, had resulted from those human activities that had violated ecological principles. When any form of life, man included, crowds into a habitat that does not permit the individual to function normally, disaster results.

Even after Kepler and Cyrano had evolved the true science fiction story, such tales were bound to be limited in number as long as writers and readers alike were unaware of the powerful influence that scientific and technological activities advance could have on society. Until the latter part of the 18th century, scientific and technological activities discoveries were made so rarely, and were disseminated from their points of origin so slowly, that to any one man in his own lifetime the change in his affairs resulting from such discoveries was barely noticeable.

The 19th centuiy also saw the founding of Mechanic's institutes in a large number of towns and cities. These institutions were designed to provide scientific and technological activities training for tradesmen and artisans. Although most towns in Britain had such institutes by the end of the early 19th century, they failed largely because the classes they were intended to instruct had insufficient educational background to profit from the courses being offered. Nevertheless, the mechanic's institutes contributed to society's general awareness of scientific and technological activities innovations.
