Standards Of Baby Photography:

Standards Of Baby Photography The parents usually will buy such pictures no matter how inferior they may be—which is the reason why standards of baby photography are so low. With nothing more than a box Camera and with the worst of drug store processing of films and prints, you could still make a few dollars snapping the neighbors' children.

The purpose of standards is, therefore, not only to satisfy the needs of clients, but to also protect them from shoddy photography and unethical business practices. This protection can be provided through the establishment of standards of performance, codes of conduct that insure good work and services, and industry peer-recognition programs. Standards may be established by various controlling or influencing organizations.

In some respects, the high standards set by the leaders in advertising help to make it easier for the beginner to break into the field at an unpretentious level. These high standards give everyone something to shoot at, give the art directors of the smaller agencies plenty of examples by which to judge the photography they obtain from their own suppliers. As a result, advertising art directors in the lower echelons seem habitually discontented with the pictures they are buying. "Do you do any advertising photography?" is a question which I have been asked over and over again by ad men whom I've met socially and otherwise. And when I tell them I'm not in that field, they always seem, disappointed, even when they know little or nothing of my work.
