Roller Has Small Depressions:

Roller Has Small Depressions You always produce a better finish if you apply two thin coats rather than one thicker one. If you decide to use a roller, choose one to suit the texture of the wall. For example, to cover a smooth surface and give an even finish, use a foam or mohair roller; while for deeply textured or rough surfaces, a shaggy pile roller is best. Begin by working the roller in all directions and finish off with light strokes in a single direction. It is best to work over a small area at a time.

The molten glass flows from the furnace, in a cylinder approximately one inch in diameter, and passes between two water-cooled rollers. The top one has a smooth face while the lower roller has small depressions at regular intervals on its surface so that the cylinder is converted into a ribbon with small, bulbous masses on its under side as it leaves the rollers. The glass then moves onto an endless moving belt, each of the blobs falling into an opening about one inch in diameter. Thus, the bulbs receive their first forming as they fall on the belt, with the ball of glass beginning to sag immediately on being spotted on the conveyor.
