Plants In Home Gardens:

Plants In Home Gardens GARDEN, gar'd'n, a piece of ground for the cultivation of plants, fruits, or vegetables, generally adjacent to a dwelling. The term also includes public gardens and commercial truck gardens. The subject covers so wide a range that the technique of every branch of gardening cannot be dealt with specifically and in detail in one article. Certain principles, however, may be established. These, with suitable modifications, are applicable to the cultivation of trees, flowers, vegetables, small fruits, and indoor horticulture whether in the home or the greenhouse. The subject is dealt with under the following headings : history, general principles, plant enemies, propagation, house plants, and equipment.

GARDENS CAN be made wholly with plants or with artefacts such as walls, paths, patios, steps, pools, statues, and other Ornaments added, but the best gardens usually result from a happy blending of everything. The structures will be there all the time, will not change with the seasons, and will give the garden form and character at all times, whereas the plants will be constantly changing in size and appearance, and the annual and bedding kinds will actually be renewed every year, or even two or three times a year. Many beautiful gardens are made by creating a firm design with the architectural components and then clothing this with a rich covering of plants. Borders and flower beds can be any shape: formal and straight, gently curving, backed by a wall, Fence or hedge, or standing in the middle of a lawn as an island bed.

Many kinds of beetles are familiar because of their destructive habits both to farm crops and plants in home gardens. Others are well known because of their beneficial habits, while some are merely interesting creatures that commonly appear in our environment.
