Inscriptions on some of the statues and on clay cylinders tell of Gudea's extensive building activities, his trade with countries as distant as Egypt and Ethiopia, and his wars and other activities.
3. Trade and Fun Fairs Basel has a big Swiss Industries Fair inmid-April. Lausanne has its Comptoir Suisse, an agricultural, industrial and trade fair, in mid-September. Lugano has its important Fiera Svizzera (Swiss Fair) in early October, and St. Gall its Olma, a farm and dairy fair, at about the same time. Of a completely different nature, perhaps having wider interest to holiday travelers, is Locarno's annual Film Festival, held early in July.
The act grouped half a dozen or more Scottish burghs into single member constituencies, which were at least as corrupt as the English borough constituencies of the day, but were much more difficult to manage owing to local rivalries. The revival of genuine two-party politics is usually ascribed to the influence of the French Revolution. The friends of France and liberty organized themselves and held conventions in Edinburgh, but their leaders soon were arrested and transported and the movement driven underground where it became associated with the early activities of trade unions in the industrial areas.
