Academic Education: Qualification. It is rare for an English school-teacher to hold any degree beyond the bachelor's. The granting of the bachelor of education degree by colleges of education is made possible by the fact that all the colleges, whether originally provided by the churches or the local authorities, are associated with their nearest university through the university institutes of education, which have a responsibility for guaranteeing their academic education standards as well as promoting the interchange of ideas.
In Scotland qualifications are more exacting.
