A Young Normandy:

A Young Normandy Lisieux, in Normandy, made famous by a young Normandy girl, Sainte-Therese-a-l'Enfant-jesus, who was canonized as recently as 1925, has a big religious festival from September 25 to 30 and a pilgrimage on October 3. Domremy, on May 14, and Orleans, on May 7-8, have pilgrimages to honor, respectively, the birth of Saint Joan and her deliverance of Or-Mans.

At Alton, Hampshire, a friendly arrangement was reached between the two, but it did not last long. In 1105 Henry invaded Normandy, and at the Battle of Tinche-Dray (1106) Robert was defeated, captured, and raken to England, where he was kept in prison intil his death 28 years later. He was the father )f William Clito, duke of Normandy (1102?-! 128).

Normandy also fell under Lombard influence in the Romanesque period. The great prestige of northern Italy at this time was due in part to its great universities, such as the one at Pavia. Some of the most important prelates of Normandy, and subsequently of England, were born and trained in Lombardy, and they helped to carry the Lombard style northward. Hence the abbeys at Caen have a modified form of Lombard structure.
