4-27 Young Dropped: As the river enters more gentle slopes, some of its sediment is dropped. Where there is a sudden change in gradient and therefore water speed, as when a river leaves the mountains and runs out onto a plain, nearly all the sediment will be dropped, forming an alluvial Fan [2], More usually the material is deposited en route as the river current slows up. The coarsest sediment is dropped first.
Small, greenish fish about i inch long. YOUNG: Born alive; large numbers dropped at a time.
Habitat: Near mountain streams and ponds and in open pine and oak woods
Reproduction: Viviparous; 4-27 young dropped at a time, depending on size of snake; able to fend for themselves at once
